BEGINNERS GUIDE TO COLD EXPOSURE THERAPY

According to a recent study, many health benefits have been linked to regular exposure to cold. A good example of this would be enhanced metabolism. It is a known fact that cold environments help in speeding up metabolism to a healthy level. Exposure to cold is also said to help reduce swelling, inflammation, and sore muscles.

So, how to start as a beginner? Here are a few tips that you can try to get started with your cold exposure training:

Visit a Cryotherapy Centre

One good way to start your cold exposure training is by going to your local cryotherapy centre. They can adjust the temperature and exposure time that can match your current cold resistance, making them a safe and effective training method.

Try Ice Cube Training

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to do cold exposure training is through ice cubes. Try placing some ice cubes on top of your neck or spine and let it sit there until it melts.

Cold Water Bowl Training

Another cheap cold exposure training involves cold water and a bowl. What you can do is dip your hands or feet, or even both, in the bowl. An alternative method for this is to prepare another bowl with warm water and dip your hands or feet alternately between the two bowls.

Rain Exposure

Sitting outside while raining can be great training because it is a safe and cheap method. Be sure to dry yourself after the training, though, or else you might just catch a cold.

Finish with a Cold Shower

Just after you finish your warm shower, finish it with a cold one for a few seconds or so. This will help your body adjust to a sudden change in temperature.

Dip in the Ocean

Another way you could start your cold exposure training is by taking a quick dip in the ocean especially in the winter months. Ease your way into how long you spend in the water. So refreshing.

Contrasting Showers

Lastly, alternate the water temperature during your shower. Start by having a warm shower, then after a few seconds, change the dial to cold and then change it back again to warm after a few seconds. Repeat the process as much as your body can handle.

Cold exposure training can be quite difficult, especially when you are just starting. However, you need to bear with it to get its benefits. Although cold exposure is beneficial to the body, it is of great importance that you consult a medical professional first before you start any form of training or exercise regarding the matter.
